The UK renewables industry has been increasingly talked about in the press as the growing pressures of climate change, CO2 emission targets and reliance on foreign fossil fuel supplies all take their toll. The government has committed to align itself with the EU target of 20% of the country's energy being sourced from renewable sources by 2020.
The UK is already establishing itself as a world leader in the development of new and renewable energy and energy efficient systems. However, with 35GW of renewable energy capacity (involving an estimated investment of £100 billion) needed to meet the 2020 target - a considerable pace of development will be required. Much of this new capacity will be in onshore and offshore wind energy; whilst biomass, solar, marine & tidal energy sources are also being developed.
Currently, the UK is the number 1 country globally for installed offshore capacity; 7 fully operational offshore windfarms delivering 598MW of offshore wind capacity. The personnel required for these projects come from a variety of sectors, including (but not limited to): Oil & Gas, Automotive, Power, and Manufacturing Sectors. NES is working with the main organisations operating in the renewables field and is always requiring candidates not just with specific renewables experience, but also those with related, transferable skills that are keen to move in to the industry.
