Civil engineers are responsible for the design, development and construction of a wide range of projects within the process, petrochemical, built environment, water and oil & gas industries. NES has an abundance of opprtunities within the water industry currently, where a huge skills shortage exists. Wastewater Network Modellers and Hydraulic Modellers are in particularly fierce demand, so those with Microdrainage, Hydroworks and Infoworks experience are highly sought after.
Civil Engineers must ensure that projects are completed safely and within a given timescale, and they work within a variety of different disciplines, including environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering and water / wastewater engineering.
To be successful in this type of role, a relevant academic qualification - a degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or equivalent - as well as Chartered status (membership of a relevant professional body, namely, the Institute of Civil Engineers, or ICE) are standard requirements.
