Job Title - Marine Engineer

About the Role
Carry out inspections with respect to specialist issues as part of the Directorate's work plan

Assess safety cases, drawing conclusions as to the adequacy of the case itself, and make recommendations for future inspection topics

Investigate accidents, incidents and complaints as part of a team or alone

Provide support for enforcement action, including the preparation of technical reports, and provision of expert evidence in legal proceedings

Provide expert advice on health and safety matters associated with the specialist topic of marine engineering or naval architecture within HSE, and to industry and other stakeholders

Make technical and strategic contributions to HSE's overall strategy

Person Requirements
A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject

A Chartered Engineer, having corporate membership of an appropriate professional institution

Experience of design, construction, integrity management and maritime operations for floating installations and vessels and their marine plant and equipment

Familiarity with relevant offshore standards including those of the International Maritime Organisation and Classification Societies

Experience of the assessment of seaworthiness including intact and damage stability, hydrodynamic and aerodynamic loading, response and model testing

Experience with design and assessment of mooring, dynamic positioning and ballasting systems

Familiarity with risk assessment and risk management tools

You must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical & survival training requirements
