Scope
Manage and develop the people within a design office. Manage the planning, scheduling and delivery of the design engineering workload. Guarantee design quality and enforce good design practice.

Resource
Manage and coordinate design engineering resource.
Ensure adequate resource is established to support project schedules.
Ensure a standard model of engineering control procedures for design is established and maintained.
Manage the project activities through engineering resource and line supervisors.
Ensure personnel have the skills to deliver quality engineering design
Advise on personnel training.

Safety
Ensure compliance with all statutory Health & Safety legislation including CDM regulations when applicable.
Ensure all work activities are supported by design risk assessments.
Support Safety activities, Compliance Auditing, Tool Box Talks, Employee Safety Training, Incident awareness and employee methodology.

Design
Co-ordinate design activity on projects, maintaining a client review and approval process.
Maintain Peer to Peer review of all design activity.
Manage and Co-ordinate external consultants where required to support project activities
Ensure design excellence and introduce audit process.

Marketing
Support sales and marketing activities, develop customer relationships and assist in expansion and development of new business.
Assist in interpretation of client project brief.
Establish and maintain an escalation process for customer support.

Commercial
Advise on contract strategy.
Review and advise on tender process to gain knowledge & understanding of project content.
Project hand over and sign off.
Project critique (internal & with client)
Liaise with Project Finance Manager on all project financial matters including project tender, project expenditure, approval of material requisition sheets, project creep, manpower cost and invoice issuing.
Ensure project profitability.

Team Work
Provide leadership to design Engineering team.
Maintain design engineering review meetings incorporating all necessary departments.
Employ skills to identify and resolve individual, team and project issues ensuring early identification and resolution

The successful candidate will be degree qualified in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering. They will have extensive knowledge of M&E Design process. They will be adept at setting goals, managing projects, checking drawings/calculations and setting rules and standards.
